London Underground have extremely complicated fares. The cheapest way to travel depends on the time, the day and the mode of transport.
There are single tickets and tickets for one entire day or a week or longer.
A paper ticket cost £4+ for a single journey on the underground.
On an oyster card, it costs from about £2, depending how far you travel.
A 1 day ticket costs from £7, depending which zones you use.
I take it that you are coming to do some sightseeing. The best ticket is a 1 day ticket. People say oyster cards are cheaper, but they indirectly are more expensive and they’re a lot more hassle.
If you need a ticket for longer, a 7 day ticket may be more applicable. Plus, a 1 day ticket for the tube is also valid on buses and suburban train services.
Get a 1 day ticket (called a travelcard), it costs between £7 and £8.50 per day.
